On the evening of 11 October, University Staff gathered to celebrate German Culture and Heritage at our Oktoberfest. The staff was particularly fortunate to hear from Dr. Sabine Gross, a native of Germany and Professor in the Department of German, Nordic and Slavic Languages here on campus. Dr. Gross provided a presentation on life in Germany and the impact of German immigrants on Wisconsin. A number of University Staff Congressional Representatives were on hand, including Sara Frey (140), Jose Torres Martinez (145), Jill Keller (129), Consuelo Morales (142), and Januka Thapa (144). Varsity Hall rooms I and II were filled to capacity as everyone enjoyed brats and German music. At least one Alpine hat was spotted in the crowd, festooned with pins from across Europe. As the event concluded, many attending paused to speak with Dr. Gross, reminiscing about their own German experiences and testing out their High School German language skills.
