In the Line of Duty

It was on 3 February, in 1971, that New York City plain clothes police officer Frank Serpico, was shot in the face while on assignment with the Narcotics Bureau. Serpico had been outspoken about police corruption.

The story of Frank Serpico was told in a book by Peter Maas and later made into a film directed by Sidney Lumet. The role of Serpico, the son of Italian immigrants, would be played by Al Pacino.

The movie created one of the iconic images of the 1970’s in it’s poster (above) and in the original score was composed by MikisTheodorakis, nominated for both the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and the BAFTA award for the BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, and can be accessed below….
