Celebrating Black History

In declaring Black History Month in 1976, President Gerald Ford urged Americans to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”

University Staff hosted their own Black History Month on 2 February. The daytime event took place in 271 Bascom and the evening event was in the HSLC atrium. Vice Provost Patrick Sims spoke to the day time crowd and Carl Hampton addressed those who gathered in the HSLC Atrium for the 2nd/3rd shift event.

Each event featured a strong presence by those involved in shared governance across campus.
